Regrooving – The smart approach to prolonging the life of your tires
Professional tire regrooving is a sensible option that prolongs the life of a tire, making it even more economical.
In fact, regrooving pays off twofold: firstly, because you can simply drive the tire for longer, and secondly because the lower profile thickness reduces rolling resistance, which in turn reduces fuel consumption.
On top of that are the environmental benefits. A tire that can go longer before being replaced saves valuable resources. The tire must of course be labeled as regroovable. To exploit this added potential fully without damaging the casing, only qualified specialists may perform the regrooving.

ContiCasingManagement uses standardized methods to take care of the entire casing management process. For instance, you can use our online casing management system to keep a constant eye on your used casing stock and decide at any moment what you want to do with your used tires: sell them, retread them or simply leave them with us – whatever you want, however and whenever you want it. That gives you and your fleet the greatest possible flexibility and transparency.
ContiTread is the Continental premium tread for cold retreading.
This tread is produced exclusively with Continental mixtures and profiles. By choosing this method, you give your tire a new profile, prolong its life and thereby reduce your total tire costs.
The best results are achieved when high-tech and high quality Continental casings are used in retreading. ContiTread can, however, be applied to other makes of casing.
Using our premium hot retreading service ContiRe, you give new life to your worn Continental Truck Tire and realize the full economic performance of the tire.
ContiRe production is analogoue to how we manufacture our new tires – using the same profiles and rubber mixtures. Exclusively Continental casings are used, which are retreaded from bead to bead. This method also renews the side walls, and the tires remain regroovable.
To ensure our high quality standard, every tire is put through durability and safety tests according to a standardized quality system. Accordingly, every ContiRe is covered by the Continental warranty. All this and its outstanding mileage make a ContiRe the best choice among the retreadable tires.
There are two methods that can be used for tire retreading: hot retreading and cold retreading. Only carefully selected and properly inspected casings are used in either of these methods. The manufacturing process itself is also identical for both methods, up to the point of applying the tread material and performing the vulcanization.
During hot retreading, the process of applying the tread material is virtually identical to the production of a new tire.
The tread material is taken directly from the extruder and applied to the buffed casing. Afterwards the tread/casing assembly is cured in a vulcanization mold with the required tread pattern. The pattern on the tread is formed during the vulcanization process just as it is when a new tire is made.
Hot retreaded truck tires from Continental are retreaded from bead to bead. The main advantage of this principle is that the sidewalls are renewed, ensuring that the quality of the hot retreaded tire is comparable with that of a new tire.
Using the cold retreading method, a patterned and prevulcanized tread is applied to the buffed casing. This tread is placed, under constant tension, together with an unvulcanized bonding ply onto the buffed casing; pretensioning ensures already prior to vulcanization that the tread adapts optimally to the tire contour and guarantees that the parts are effectively bonded together while the tire is in the autoclave (curing chamber). Then the prepared tire is “packed” into a curing tube (envelope) and cured under pressure in the autoclave.
ECE Regulation No. 109 defines type approval standards in the production of retreaded pneumatic tires for commercial vehicles and their trailers. This regulation defines strict quality control measures that have been compulsory for retreaders since September 2006 to ensure high-quality retreaded tires.
